Llano Estacado Regional Water Planning Group ("Region O")
Efforts are now underway to finalize the 2011 Llano Estacado Regional Water Management Plan for submission to the Texas Water Development Board and the Texas Legislature .
The 2006-2011 regional water planning cycle is different from the past. The first two years of this third round of regional water planning focused on local and region specific water supply-related issues (2006-2008).
The final three years of the five-year planning
cycle (2009-2011) were used to update the 2006 Llano Estacado Regional Water
Management Plan to meet the Sept. 1, 2010 deadline for submission to the Texas Water Development Board
(TWDB) in Austin. The final document will be submitted to the Texas Legislature in 2011.
Our Mission:
The Llano Estacado Regional Water Planning Group's mission statement is to "develop promote, and implement water conservation, augmentation, and management strategies to provide adequate water supplies for the Llano Estacado Regional Water Planning Area and to stabilize or improve the economic and social viability and longevity of the region through these activities.”
The Planning Group:
In accordance with Senate Bill 1 passed during the 75th Texas Legislative Session, the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) in Austin was authorized to divide the state into 16 regional water planning areas. Appointed by the TWDB, the Regional Water Planning Group Members represent 11 water user groups as they revise and update the 2001 water plan.
Each of the 16 regional water planning groups are charged with the following tasks:

To determine the amount of surface & ground water currently available in their respective regions.

To determine the historic and future use of available water supplies.

To determine if the regional water supplies are adequate to meet the needs of all water users in their respective regions by decade to the year 2060, and if not, to develop strategies to meet these needs.

To determine the economic and social impact which will occur in their respective regions if these water needs cannot be met.
